Missing Teeth: Replacing Them is Easier Than Ever

I have always been an avid hockey player, and my love took a bad turn one day when I got struck in the mouth with the puck. It was a painful moment that left me with two teeth knocked out of my mouth. Had I taken the right steps after the accident, I could have possibly saved the teeth, but I did not know I had that option at the time. Thankfully, I worked up the courage to visit a dentist and ask what my options for teeth-replacement were. I was worried I would would have to live the rest of my life without smiling, but I was ecstatic to learn that I was the perfect candidate for dental implants. I created this blog to help others realize that there are so many options to replace missing teeth today that no one has to "just live with" an imperfect smile!

What You Should Know About Braces

Dentist Blog

One of the first characteristics that people notice when they meet a new person is their teeth. Teeth can be a very important part of your overall appeal to another individual, or teeth can be a real hindrance. The problem is that crooked teeth do not allow you to look your very best, and that can hurt self esteem. The good news is that braces are able to straighten out teeth, and help anyone look their very best. Braces are a fantastic way to improve your look and your self esteem, but there are a few thing that you should know about braces.

They Hurt

One of the first things that you should know is that braces really can start to hurt. If you stop to think what is going on, it makes sense that braces would hurt. The teeth in your jaw are being rearranged. You should make sure that you have plenty of medicine to help with the pain, but you should also know that the pain goes away. Depending on how often the orthodontist meets with you, the braces are going to be adjusted periodically. Right after these adjustments is when most of the pain starts, but after a few hours the pain starts to go away.

Your Lips

It is definitely a little different feeling braces on your lips. Resist the urge to rub your lips on your braces when you get them. Your lips are going to get very irritated with you when you have braces on. Do not be surprised to find that your lips get swollen and hurt a great deal. Have some oral gel on hand for when your lips start to really hurt. A very good route to go is to cover your braces with plastic strips made for braces. The plastic strips go right over your braces and keep your lips from getting chewed up. However, not everyone experiences this, and just like the pain this usually only occurs in the beginning.

Braces Work

There may be a time when you have your braces on when you think to yourself, "is this worth it." The answer to that question is a resounding yes! You should know that braces may be a little bit of a nuisance, but you will get used to them, and after everything is said and done you are going to have straight teeth. having straight teeth will make it easier to brush and floss. It will give you better overall oral hygiene, but perhaps most importantly having straight teeth is going to increase your self esteem.
